Thousands of devotees thronged Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai on Sunday to bid an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha during the Ganpati visarjan ceremony, marking the conclusion of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

The grand immersion procession, which began on Saturday, saw large idols of Lord Ganesh being carried to the seashore amid chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya,” beats of dhol and nagada, and showers of flower petals and vermillion. Similar celebrations were held across other major cities, including Pune, Nagpur, and Hyderabad.

Earlier in the day, the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja idol was also taken for immersion, drawing massive crowds. Reliance Industries Executive Director Anant Ambani joined the procession at Girgaon Chowpatty. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also participated in visarjan ceremonies at Malad West’s Bhujale Talao and in Borivali, offering prayers for peace and prosperity.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde attended the immersion at Girgaon Chowpatty, showering flower petals on the departing idol. CM Fadnavis lauded the smooth conduct of the festival, crediting local authorities, police, and municipal staff for their arrangements.

Ganpati visarjan, observed on Anant Chaturdashi, marks the culmination of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, symbolising the deity’s return to his celestial abode with the promise of coming back next year.
